Final Exam Study Suggestions

Hello Honors World Students,

Here are some suggestions for studying for the final exam.

1. Study your notes - especially the Economic, social, political and accomplishment charts you have made from your notes. This hard work will pay off on the final as well as next year when you take the AP World history final exam.

2. Study your matching lists/crossword puzzles. We are using some of the same tests we used throughout the semester to make this test so studying the crossword puzzles is a great idea.

3. Study the sample MC questions I handed out in class and are linked below. Go here.

4. Don't panic or stress out too much. The final is only about 10% of the semester grade so as long as you get at leat 50% it can't lower your grade more than 5%. Study hard and study smart (about 2-3 hours before the final). Be sure to study for your other final exams as well.

Roman Decline Paragraph

In a body paragraph, explain the decline of the Roman Empire. Be sure to include at least 10 facts and five sentences of explanation. Explanation sentences should link a fact or example to the fall of Roman Civilization. Be sure to use the phrase "fall of Roman civilization" or similar phrases regularly. The paragraph should be at least half a page long and not more than one page total. Below is an example of explanation. Let's say you are trying to show that the US is in decline. You choose to use the fact that our morals are in decline as evidence. You could write the sentence "Since the US morals are in decline the fall of US civilization is near". That sentence needs more of a link between the fact and the result. Why do poor morals lead to the fall of civilization?

To create the link ask "what did that fact directly result in" over and over until you get to the eventual result you are hoping to prove.

A better sentence might be "The decline in American morals has led frequent corruption in government, marital unfaithfulness, and irresponsible business practices. Untrustworthy government, weak families and greedy business all could contribute to the decline of American civilization.

PRACTICE THOUGHTFUL EXPLANATION AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THIS PARAGRAPH.

Roman Building Body paragraph

Research one of the important buildings during Ancient Rome and explain their importance in a body paragraph. Your body paragraph must have the following:
1. A topic sentence naming the dynasty you researched and what it accomplished
2. At least 5 sentences explaining the dynasty or its accomplishments in more detail.
3. At least 10 facts about the building. A fact is a name, date, place or event. The facts are not sentences but are includes within sentences.

For example, the sentence "Lake City High School is big". has one fact (Lake City High School).

TEST on Thursday - Read Notes and Do Crossword

Read your notes, highlight the notes, read the notes outloud to your parents or whatever it takes to learn the notes well. ALL of the 70 multiple choice questions will come from the notes so study them well.

I have also attached a link to the crossword puzzle that you can print out and complete. The crossword is not required homework but it will be VERY helpful and is a nice break from reading the notes over and over. Go to this link to print out the crossword. If you need a print out come by my room tomorrow and I will give you one.

Read the Early India section in your book. (p. 62-68) Highlight important changes, developments and comparisons as you read. Write the main idea of each paragraph as well. If you do not have the book then read the wikipedia article on Hinduism and Hindu history. Take half a page of notes as you read.

Hello Honors World history students. If you didn't already turn in your map from Wednesday please finish the questions using the website on the page at home. If you turned it in I will give it back to you on Monday to finish.

Also, make sure you read a current news article about China and complete the SOAPSTone prompts in short sentences after reading the article. We will talk about them in class on Monday.
